“Eat
well, live well.” How many times have you heard these expressions? Probably enough for you to realize that your diet and exercise habits are extremely important in maintaining your long-term health. The endless barrage of nutrition information in magazines and in the media can be contradictory and overwhelming. One day you hear you should eat more protein, the next you hear you need to eat more whole grains and fruit. Getting clear answers about what you should eat can seem impossible. That’s where we come in. UPMC Nutrition Services is one of the premier nutrition programs in the country. Throughout our 19-hospital health system, we have registered dietitians and dietetic technicians available to answer your questions and get you on the right track. We can help you with diet and nutrition information and counseling on a variety of topics:
You may schedule an appointment with a registered dietitian at the facility closest to your home. These in-depth appointments include a complete nutrition evaluation and education session and last approximately one hour. Insurance companies may or may not cover this service. You should check with your insurance company to determine your coverage before scheduling an appointment with us. Be sure to ask your doctor for a referral. Additional appointments may be recommended after your initial visit with the registered dietitian to assist you in your lifestyle change. Nutrition classes, including diabetes nutrition education and weight management classes, are offered throughout the hospital system. Check Classes, Screenings, and Events for current class listings. UPMC Nutrition Services also offers nutrition programming for corporations. Check with the UPMC Nutrition Services office closest to you for program availability, rates, and topics.
